Identifying Danger Points in Voir Dire Webinar

Voir dire is one of the most critical moments in trial. Before lawyers can earn trust, ask meaningful questions, or help jurors speak honestly, they must first understand where the real danger lives in the case.

In this interactive 90-minute webinar, participants will explore the first essential step of TLC voir dire: identifying danger points. Led in the style of a TLC small group, this program will invite participants to work with real case material, engage with the group, and examine why identifying danger points is crucial to making the remaining steps of voir dire work. This course is exclusive to TLC graduates. The course fee is $100.

Faculty Lead

Eddie Schmidt

Eddie Schmidt spent his earlier years in Louisiana and the last 25 in Nashville, Tennessee. He has tried almost every kind of civil case, and a few criminal matters, from dog bites and rear enders to complicated medical malpractice and defective products, in State and Federal Courts, in rural areas and big cities. Eddie graduated from the Trial Lawyers College and was later asked to join the faculty staff in which he concentrated on teaching the TLC trial skill methods. Eddie was at one time a mediocre fisherman and lousy hunter and now spends his free time swimming and wrestling with his ten grandchildren. Eddie considers his involvement with the Trial Lawyers College his finest professional achievement.

Faculty Lead

James R. Clary, Jr.

James R. Clary, Jr. has been a trial lawyer for more than forty years, dedicating his professional life to seeking full measures of justice for clients in courtrooms across the country. A native of Baton Rouge, Jim earned both his B.A. in Journalism and his law degree from Louisiana State University before opening Clary Law Firm in 1993, where he has represented ordinary people and small businesses in matters involving plaintiff personal injury, commercial litigation, criminal defense, family law, and professional licensing board hearings. A graduate of the 2002 class of Trial Lawyers College, Jim has served TLC in many capacities, including as a member of the Board of Directors from 2009 to 2025, Treasurer for a decade beginning in 2014, and faculty member since 2004, teaching various aspects of trial law for nearly 20 years. Deeply committed to TLC’s mission of obtaining justice for the injured, the accused, and the least powerful among us, Jim considers this work the honor and privilege of his life.

What You'll Do and Learn

Take advantage of TLC's webinar trainings to work with renowned TLC faculty from the comfort of your own office.

This special 90-minute virtual course is designed for trial lawyers who want to strengthen their voir dire practice by learning how to recognize and work with the vulnerabilities, fears, biases, and difficult truths that may shape a jury’s response to a case.

Rather than offering a lecture-only format, this program will model TLC’s experiential approach. The faculty leaders will guide participants through a small-group-style session, selecting protagonists whose cases provide meaningful opportunities to examine danger points in action. Participants will be invited to engage as they would in an in-person TLC program: listening deeply, participating actively, and learning through the lived experience of the group.

The final portion of the webinar will be dedicated to processing why identifying danger points is the first and necessary step in TLC voir dire, and how this work supports the remaining steps in the process.
