Texas Regional Course - Houston

July 18th-21st, 2024
Starting 04:00 PM - Ending 12:00 PM US/Central
This course is for those trial attorneys passionate about representing their clients. The TLC Texas Regional Course will teach trial attorneys how to conduct a powerful Cross-Examination in both the civil and criminal arena. The TLC Methods of Cross-Exam will teach how to tell the story of the client's case, but this time the lawyer becomes the principal storyteller. The TLC Method goes beyond the old method of the “controlled cross" but rather trains trial attorneys how to examine the motivations and forces that compel a witness’ testimony, often transforming a witness against the client into a witness for the client.

About TLC's Texas Regional Course - Houston

Crafting Persuasion: Cross-Examination Mastery

Hands-on learning with seasoned attorneys and psychodramatists

Join us for a powerful weekend at the HBCU Texas Southern University in Houston, TX to focus on the art of Cross-Examination for both civil and criminal practitioners. This hands-on training course will be led by Monique Sparks, Founder of the Sparks Law Firm in Houston; Eric Davis, Trial Bureau Chief at the Office of Harris County Public Defenders; and Milton Grimes, Founder of the Grimes Law Office in Los Angeles and lead defender of Rodney King who was subject to one of the nation's worst cases of police brutality at the time. They will lead a powerful faculty team of TLC-trained trial lawyers, licensed psychodramatists Jody Anderson, Jason Hasko and Louise Lipman; and Courtroom Communications Expert Joshua Karton.

Participants at this program may have the opportunity work on their own cases as they learn how to apply the TLC Method of Cross Examination.  Participants will also gain important skills by using some of the psychodrama methods learned during this course.  The skills from attending this course will help trial attorneys examine the motivations and forces that compel a witness’ testimony, often giving the attorney the rare opportunity to transform a witness against their client's case us into a witness for their client.

Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your advocacy skills and achieve justice for your clients. Registrations after July 4th may not be available.

COURSE FEE: $1399 includes training & meals.
LODGING is NOT included.

Flexible Payment Options and Financial Assistance

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Trial Lawyers College knows that some trial lawyers may not currently have the funds needed to attend training on the TLC Method. In true F-Warrior fashion, many TLC alumni have graciously donated funds to assist. The goal is to assist those who are truly in need and to make sure all get an equal chance at receiving assistance whether it be providing full tuition, half tuition or lodging (if available).

The TLC Course Assistance application process will include not just the typical questions but will also keep in line with the spirit of the TLC Method by asking for the applicant’s story. The application content will be kept confidential among the TLC Financial Assistance Committee and TLC administrative staff.

Similar to some grant processes, applicants for assistance must provide employment status and employer name for previous 12 months; city and state (or region) in which they practice; average monthly income (from all sources) over the past 12 months; a statement of why assistance is needed; and how much assistance is needed. Applications will be reviewed starting June 8th, 40 days prior to the course’s start date so assistance may be provided in sufficient time to allow travel plans and to also stay within the course’s venue contractual obligations. There may be occasions where last-minute application approval(s) become available. Those will be addressed in as timely a fashion as possible.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Given the high cost of providing courses at easily accessible venues nationwide and those venues’ strict cancellation policies, TLC has had to make changes to its cancellation policy. To lessen the impact of this change in policy on our tribe, we offer the following options: 1. In the case where a student needs to cancel, they have 31 days prior to the course to cancel and receive a full refund. If it is after the 31-day deadline, to receive a full refund they may contact Brooklyn@triallawyerscollege.org with the name of a replacement student who is prepared to take their place. This is especially important to cover the cost of the committed lodging. After the replacement student completes registration including full payment, a full refund will be processed. 2. If no replacement is found for their reserved spot prior to the program, we will apply 50% of the paid tuition as a credit toward a future program, to be used within one year, and use the other 50% toward the unused lodging expense of the course cancelled.
