Episode 44: The Effectiveness of Psychodrama with Faculty Member, John Naizby
“Cancer has been a gift in some ways that I’ve really learned how precious every day is. And how to live in the present and not the future or the past, to really value every connection you have with people, stuff that I thought I did before but truth be told, it’s easy to backslide if you’re not always trying to evolve, and to do the work on yourself. But cancer has brought that front and center for me and I don’t think I would have been able to see that part that has really truly been a gift if I had not had the experience of going through psychodrama, staying active with psychodrama through the years and being apart of the college as well. I don’t think I would have been able to perceive it the way that I have.”- John Naizby (TLC1 2000 Grad & Faculty Member)
In this episode, I sit down with long-time TLC grad and faculty member, John Naizby. John practices law in Connecticut but has consulted with cases in all 50 states. John has a quiet demeanor but his fight is extremely strong and that shows in this conversation. When he first started with TLC in 2000, he doubted the effectiveness of Psychodrama in his life, a TLC foundational skill. Once he started to realize how it could improve his relationships, his daily responses in life and his overall perspective, he has been able to deal with accepting difficult news. Every year TLC faculty members and staff love having John at TLC events because he brings a different approach and can relate to some students in a way that no other faculty member can. His love, passion, and commitment to his clients and the college are admirable and I feel lucky I had the opportunity to get to know him at TLC’s 3-Week July College this past year.

Interviewing John Naizby
John Naizby was raised in a small dairy town in upstate New York. He lost his father at the age of 3 and grew up with his sister, mother, maternal grandparents and great-grandmother. He knew from an early age he wanted to be involved in helping people and ultimately that is what lead him to the law. Over the course of his career, John has had the good fortune of representing numerous people and families who have lost a loved one, and he is humbled by the friendships he has made along the way. He attributes the success he has had in the courtroom to the people he has represented and to being real. He now lives in Connecticut with his family and pursues justice for his clients in Connecticut, Florida, New York, and any other jurisdictions his help is requested. He feels it has been the greatest honor to be of service to others and to provide for his family in the process.
